Crime Analyst Symposium - Friday, September 5, 2008
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Griffin Gate Marriott Resort & Spa
Area crime analysts, law enforcement personnel and interested parties are invited to join us for a day of free training. Workshop presenters Susan C. Smith, Michael Bess and Lieutenant Robert L. Hubbs have over 74 years of experience in crime analysis and GIS.
Workshop topics include Analyzing Crime Patterns & Crime Series, Communicating with Maps & Analysis and more. This event is hosted by the Lexington Division of Police and Eastern Kentucky University - College of Justice and Safety.

Congratulations to Graduating Recruit Class 122007!
Thirty-two recruits recently graduated and were sworn to duty. The class participated in over 40 hours of community service, averaged 87.3% in firearms proficiency, and 90.57% on their academic work. They are the second recurit class to graduate with an associate degree from Midway College.
Mopeds - Go Carts - Scooters: What You Need to Know

According to Kentucky Revised Statutes, gas and electric scooters are not allowed on roadways unless the operator has a license. This includes mopeds, golf carts, go-carts, or any vehicle propelled by means other than muscular power.

Project Lifesaver
A program using state-of-the-art technology in searching for and rescuing persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and other related disorders who may wander and become lost. People enrolled in the program wear a personalized bracelet that emits a tracking signal. Learn more about Project Lifesaver >>

25th Annual National Mounted Police Colloquium - October 21-23, 2008
The Mounted Unit will be hosting the 25th Annual National Mounted Police Colloquium at the Kentucky Horse Park. This event is open to any agency utilizing horses and will feature the first 100 horses and riders registered from various agencies all over the United States and Canada. The Colloquium will consist of registration on Monday, October 20th, training classes on Tuesday and Wednesday conducted by instructors from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Major (retired) John R. Daziel. On Thursday, a stringent competition will complete the colloquium. Students will receive training in everything from basic horsemanship, flatwork, jumping, defensive tactics, obstacle work and more.
Lexington Police Athletic League (PAL)
The Police Activities League of Lexington is a crime prevention program that relies on recreation, athletics and education to build a positive relationship between police officers, youth, and the community - "Cops and Kids Working Together To Make a Difference."

TOTAL CRIME NUMBERS LOWEST SINCE 1974
Statistics are collected and reported based on Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Justice. The combined rate of major crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, auto theft, arson and theft, is the lowest it has been in 33 years.
Comparison charts for "Clearance Rates" and "UCR Offense ratios to Population" were also released.

The Citizen Police Academy is for citizens with an interest in learning about their police department and government.
The CPA is held three times a year. It consists of twelve 3-hour classes held one evening a week. You will learn about the different areas of the Division of Police. Each class is taught by certified police officers, supervisors, and civilian instructors with particular expertise. A variety of training topics with participation in "role playing" and scenarios offer a "hands-on" learning experience. How to Participate >>
