Bureau of Patrol

The Bureau of Patrol is commanded by Assistant Chief Stephen Stanley. The Patrol component is responsible for all uniform patrol services within Fayette County, while the Bureau of Special Operations, commanded by Assistant Chief David Boggs, is responsible for the specialized units that support Patrol.

Patrolling Fayette County - The Sector System

On July 5, 1999, the Bureau of Patrol instituted a new Sector Plan for providing Patrol Services to the 286 square miles of Fayette County.

Previously, responsibilities were divided by shifts with a Captain being in charge of a specific time period. In order to better affix geographical responsibilities, Fayette County was divided into three Sectors with a Captain responsible for a specific geographic area.(See County Sector Map)

These areas were defined by establishing, as closely as possible, boundaries in which the need for services would be evenly distributed. This evaluation is a continuous process and boundaries may be changed as the demand for services shift from one Sector to another.

In addition to Squads assigned to Beats within the Sectors, the Bureau of Special Operations was created in January 2008. Special Operations personnel can address specific problems that are not related to routine patrol duties and can support the community in various ways such as:
