School Liaison Unit
The School Liaison Unit was established in its current form in 1998. The Unit consists of five officers and one supervisor. The officers assigned to the School Liaison Unit act as a resource to the Fayette County Public and private schools to assist in the prevention of juvenile delinquency.
The officers in the School Liaison Unit are assigned to specific areas based on the Fayette County Public Schools Division of Law Enforcement five area districts. Each high school and the middle and elementary schools that feed into that particular high school comprise one area. The Liaison officer responsible for that designated area also assists all private schools within that area's geographical boundaries.
The Unit personnel are available to conduct classroom presentations on a variety of police related topics whenever they are requested. The primary concern of the School Liaison Unit is activities that occur off school property but directly or indirectly impact the school system, students, staff, or property of all public and private schools in Fayette County. The School Liaison Unit also assists the Fayette County Public Schools, Department of Law Enforcement officers with incidents that occur on school property when requested.
